SCORTEN Scale

​

The SCORe of Toxic Epidermal Necrosis (SCORTEN scale) is a severity-of-illness type of scale originally developed to aid prognosis of toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), but can also be used for the following cutaneous conditions;

  • Stevens-Johnson Syndrome patients, 

  • burn victims, patients with

  • cutaneous drug reactions or exfoliative wounds.

​

Each parmeter below gives a score of 1 point (7 = maximum)

​

  • Age ≥40 years

  • Heart rate ≥120 beats per min

  • Cancer/hematologic malignancy

  • BSA detached ≥10% (at day 1)

  • Serum BUN >10 mmol/L

  • Serum bicarbonate <20 mmol/L

  • Serum glucose >14 mmol/L

​

No of risk factors/Mortality Rate

  • 0 -1   3.2%

  • 2      12.1%

  • 3      35.3%

  • 4      58.3%

  • 5 or more >90%
