Scoring System

Muscle Strength Scale

​

A scale to use when describing muscle function. Grading from 0-5, with 5 being normal power

​

5 - Normal strength against full resistance applied by examiner

​

4 - Able to move against gravity and light resistance

​

3 - Able to move against gravity, but not resistance

​

2 - Able to move only when gravity has been eliminated

​

1 - Evidence of muscle movement (e.g. felt on palpation), but it is insufficient to cause joint movement

​

0 - Paralysis

​
