Scoring System

Abbreviated Mental Test

​

A quick scoring test to assess for mental impairment in the elderly population

​

A score of 7 or higher would suggest delirium is unlikely

A score of 4-6 suggests moderate congitive impairment

A score of 4 or less would be in keeping with severe cognitive impairment

​

Score one point for each correct answer

​

1. Age?

2. Time? (to nearest hour)

3. Address for recall at end of test
  (confirmed and repeated by the patient):               - e.g. "42 West Street"

4. Year?

5. Name of this place?

6. Identification of two persons (doctor, nurse, etc)?

7. Date of birth?

8. Year of First World War?

9. Name of present Monarch?

10. Count backwards 20 to 1
